Every sisterhood has a story,
ours started here...

UCO Sigma Phi Lambda EST '07

About Us

Welcome to Sigma Phi Lambda, a Christ-centered sisterhood at the University of Central Oklahoma! We are more than just a sorority; we are a family united by our faith in God. Our sisterhood is built upon the values of love, grace, and service, all centered around glorifying God in everything we do. At Sigma Phi Lambda, we strive to create a nurturing community where every sister can grow spiritually, academically, and personally. Through our commitment to faith and sisterhood, we aim to positively impact our campus and beyond, embodying the principles of kindness, integrity, and compassion in all our endeavors.

Our Values

We believe in the importance of faith, sisterhood, service, and leadership. Our faith in Jesus Christ is the foundation of our sorority, and we seek to grow in our relationship with Him together. Our sisterhood is based on unconditional love and support for one another, and we aim to create a welcoming environment for all women. We are committed to serving our community through various outreach projects and volunteering opportunities. Finally, we strive to empower women to become leaders in their communities, workplaces, and families.

Where It All Began

Sigma Phi Lambda, also known as "Sisters for the Lord," was founded in 1988 at the University of Texas at Austin. Emerging from a desire for a Christ-centered sisterhood, it quickly expanded beyond its origins, becoming a beacon for Christian women across multiple campuses in the United States. Dedicated to fostering spiritual growth, academic excellence, and community service, Sigma Phi Lambda has upheld Christian values while creating a supportive environment where sisterhood thrives. With a commitment to faith, unity, and service, the sorority continues to impact the lives of women by providing a nurturing community rooted in shared Christian beliefs.

Membership Requirements

Membership in Sigma Phi Lambda involves fulfilling several requirements: paying dues to support sorority activities, accumulating points through engagement in events and service projects, having a church home, and participating in a Bible study. These criteria promote commitment, engagement, and spiritual growth within a supportive community of Christian women.

Recruitment Quick Facts

Sigma Phi Lambda's recruitment stands apart with its non-bidding process, putting emphasis on mutual connection rather than selection. We believe in a welcoming atmosphere where individuals choose us if they resonate with our values, seeking to embark on a spiritual journey within our sisterhood. Unlike formal UCO recruitment, we engage potential members in both fall and spring semesters, providing opportunities for women to explore their fit with Sigma Phi Lambda throughout the academic year.
